One good thing to emerge from Covid-19 is the reprioritisation of healthcare in the media, and in wider society. I love that! Healthcare reporting now sits on a par with the economy/business; then politics; then crime; then sport, technology and consumer-related matters.

Michael is our most recent addition to the Convergence family, bringing a unique perspective gleaned from nearly 30 years’ experience working across the APAC region while based in Singapore and Sydney.

Finding his passion for the healthcare industry early in his career, Michael honed his stakeholder management and patient advocacy skills working in HIV social research, then HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research. With this strong foundation in public health he transitioned to the private healthcare sector through a Public Affairs role at the Australian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association. In 1997 he was asked to join leading international PR firm, Edelman Public Relations, which ultimately saw him relocate to Singapore to Chair Edelman’s Healthcare Practice for Asia.

During the course of his career Michael has delivered strategic, impactful campaigns on behalf of many of the world’s leading pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology companies, including Johnson & Johnson Medical, Roche, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Merck, Sharpe and Dohme. He hopes, in some small way, to have helped drive better healthcare outcomes for patients across Asia, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to his healthcare expertise, Michael has also consulted to various manufacturing, agricultural and environment-facing clients.

Christchurch-born and bred, but sounding a little Aussie with the occasional spurt of Singlish, Michael is relishing living back in New Zealand. He spends his spare time marvelling at our country’s natural beauty on long drives, and working his way through culinary creations from his grandmother’s Edmond’s Cook Book.
